Biography:
Paulo Nunes dos Santos (b. 1977, Portugal) is a Dublin-based freelance photojournalist and reporter whose work focuses on armed conflict, humanitarian crises, political instability, and social issues worldwide.
He is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, Bloomberg, and the Financial Times, and has also collaborated with Der Spiegel, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Le Monde, Libération, Expresso, and other international publications.
After graduating in 2002 with a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences (Journalism), Paulo began traveling extensively throughout the Middle East, North and Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, South America, the Caucasus, and Eastern Europe. During this period, he produced feature stories and photo essays examining the human condition in conflict and post-war environments.
His photographs have been exhibited internationally in both solo and group exhibitions. He has received several journalism and photography awards, and his work has appeared in publications including Smithsonian, the International Herald Tribune, TIME, The Sunday Times, The Irish Times, and Courrier Internacional, as well as in books, corporate magazines, and digital platforms.
From 2015 to 2019, Paulo was the co-founder and curator of Sintra Press Photo, an annual photojournalism exhibition held at MU.SA – Sintra Art Museum, Portugal.
He is currently working on long-term projects exploring national identity and the complex socio-political dynamics of the island of Ireland.
